We just purchased a new computer for our (new) COO. The monitor, a Dell 2408WFP, has an integrated four-port USB hub. The desktop, however, flatly refuses to recognize the hub. So far, I've noticed these patterns: • Computer running Windows XP Pro • Computer has an OEM card reader plugged into internal USB header • The monitor hub can be plugged into a front or back port, using a shielded or unshielded cable, with no luck. • It doesn't matter the model of monitor--if it has a USB hub, it won't work with the above specs. I've tried searching Dell's forums for help, but no luck. Thankfully, our exec said it didn't matter since he had more than enough USB plugs on the tower--but it still bothers me.
Opie7423 wrote::-) Of course I did, hence the comment about using shielded vs. Unshielded cables. When I plug it in, Windows XP states that the USB device is not recognized.
I've had it happen on more than one model of monitor with more than one computer. I had to read your post a couple of times, but what I am gathering is that you are saying its not a problem with the monitor, but its a problem with the PC detecting the hub. I think I got that right anyways. I've installed tons of these monitors with integrated hub (not that size though) and never had a single problem with Dell D6xx laptops or Dell Opti desktops.
You don't mention the model of computer, but have you tried a regular external USB hub just to see if ti works? Have you looked for any updated drivers for oyur system that might help? Scoy99 wrote: Power issue. I had a similar issue with a monitor like this.
I added a powered hub in the mix to correct the issue. I don't know if anyone remembers the Dell USB kb's with integrated hubs that would only allow you to use one usb port.unless they were connected to a powered USB hub. Let me make sure I understand you correctly: Instead of plugging the monitor's USB port directly to the computer, you plugged into a powered USB hub? Then, that hub would be plugged directly into the computer? 5 years later.your reply helped me. I hadn't thought of the monitor as a remote hub since my HP wireless keyboard and mouse worked with my HP PC without a specific usb cable being connected.
But, with my new Dell PC connected to my HP monitor, the monitor ports didn't work.until I saw your post and connected the monitor to the tower via a usb cable and, voila! Now the wireless receiver is 'live' and recognizes the keyboard and mouse.
(I really didn't want to use the receiver in a usb port on the tower itself. The monitor has 4 usb ports and they are out of the way yet very handy. So, your guidance was exactly what I needed.) Big Thanks!
