Kawasaki Serial Numbers
Been searching the web for quite awhile with no luck. Bought a 2000 ZX12R and am finding that parts that I have ordered for it do not fit. Recently received a 2000 stator cover, and it is incorrect. After reseaching Ron Ayers fiche, I've determined that the stator and cover that is on the bike is from a 2002 or newer engine. That leads me to question whether this is the original engine in this bike.
I have verified the VIN is correct and is for a 2000. I have the Engine number, but am unable to find any way to determine what year the engine was made. Does anyone have a way to check this? The engine number is ZXT20AE024504. I'm guessing it might be froma 2003, but would like to verify this.
Any leads would help. Well, I do believe the engine numbers do still mean something and are decipherable.
I don't know what all the numbers mean, but I know that the 20 stands for the 1200 engine and the ZX stands for the bike the engine goes in. I can't remember what the A stands for, but I do know the last six digits are the serial number of the engine. The engine numbers for the ZX12R started with ZXT20AE000001 in 2000. In fact, it says that in my 2000 service manual. My engine number, ZXT20AE024504, indicates that my engine is number 24,504 of the ZX1200 engine.
The model number and serial number label is located on your Kawasaki Engine. The CODE number above the barcode is made of the model and the spec number. The first number refers to the model number and the second number refers to the spec number. Check VIN number: JKBKXFAC36A032708 and learn more about the history of this vehicle.
My problem is, I need to know in what year was this number reached in production. If someone has an original 2002 or 2003 ZX12R Service Manual, near the front of the manual there should be a page that has the VIN information for that year. It should also show the starting engine number for that year as well.
At least I hope it does. That's what I'm thinking as well.
One other thing I noticed is that the exhaust cam has a piece of oblong metal on the left end (sitting on the bike) that looks as if it triggers a sensor of some type. I kind of remember something about a sensor on the B model exhaust cams. Would this be it and would this confirm for sure that I have a B model engine? Since I bought this bike as a 2000 (that's what the VIN says and the title agrees), I had already ordered a few parts for it.
The stator cover will have to be exchanged, but I also purchased a PC III USB for a 2000 ZX12R. I would prefer not to have to return it if I knew the only difference between this one and one for a 2003 is the base map. Does anyone know if this is the case, or are there wiring differences as well? Thanks for your help guys. Single spar on this bike. Also tracked down the ECU and found the part number on it.
It is a, which would be a B1 or B2 model. So far pretty much everything on this bike tells me it's a 2002/2003, including all the plastic and fairings and the engine and ECU. However, the title lists it as a 2000 and the VIN matches between the title and the frame. I'm really curious now. Is there any way to date the frame assembly?
I'm beginning to think the entire bike might be a 2002 or 3.:roll.
